Living in Texas

sandalsI came to Texas thinking it would be a temporary thing--my husband and I had been moving around the country thanks to school and work and I figured this was just one more point along the way. Wrong! We stayed around South Texas for over twenty-five years, and although I love Colorado (and have since I was a kid), there are things about the Lone Star State that I miss.

In this section of the site, you'll find a brief guide to Texana that shows up in my books, including Texas music and wine, as well as locations like the Hill Country. You'll also find links to things about Texas that go beyond what I have here.

People in Texas tend to think Things Are Different down there, and in retrospect I agree with them. But it's hard to explain just what makes Texas such a unique place. There's the weather--hot, basically, but with all kinds of extremes, including hurricanes, tornados, flash floods, and perennial drought.

But there's also a kind of Texas State of Mind that's equally hard to describe. Texas musicians, Texas wine, and the Hill Country are all part of it, which is one of the reasons they show up in so much of my writing (along with the fact that I've listened to Texas music, drunk a lot of Texas wine, and spent a lot of time in the Hill Country).

Texas is a lot of fun to visit. I hope the information here will give you a taste of the way things are down there, and if you're ever in the neighborhood, you should give it a try. The nice folks at the Travel Texas site can get you started.
